From early on in Sully Erna's career I have followed his progress in the music industry. I have always been inspired by his music, and in many ways I have a deep connection to his music being a musician myself. Sully Erna is a man of many talents and an incredibly gifted musician. He is on a frequency that resonates from within his soul so much so that he has the ability to connect on a level with his fans like no other. The show at Mohegan Sun Arena was like sitting down with him in a giant living room. He spoke to the audience as if they were his family members, and it almost felt like you were part of a family reunion. I was very touched by the fact that Sully honored his Mother and Father, who were in the audience to see their beloved son captivate us all.
Avalon is undoubtedly one of the must see tours of 2013. The music is very different from that of Godsmack, a different sound and frequency all together. Avalon is very seductive and exotic, taking hold of your musical senses on a very intimate an sensual journey that will captivate you. There is an incredible amount of talent on stage to visually stimulate your eyes and ears and the fans made that very apparent. I have been to hundreds of shows and watched thousands of fans but I have never seen so many happy fans in one place as I did last night at Connecticut's Mohegan Sun Arena in. I was blown away by the fans' genuine love for Sully.
Sully began the show alone, with just an acoustic guitar and his voice. The set began with three powerful Godsmack songs, "Awake", "Keep Away" and "Running Blind" before breaking into a cover of Alice In Chain's "Nutshell".
His very talented band members joined him on stage to continue the set, received very warmly by fans. Sully and the band opened with "Fall into Black" and then went on to play a number of Erna's solo tracks, including "Until Then", "Broken Road", "Avalon", and "The Departed", They mixed in a few Godsmack songs throughout, giving fans a chance to hear the heavy songs broken down to their roots. One highlight of the night was an awesome cover of Pink Floyd's "Time", which celebrated Pink Floyd's 40th anniversary for "Dark Side of the Moon", still on the charts at 800 weeks, according to Sully.
They ended the spectacular evening and certainly a night to remember with three encore songs "Serenity", a cover of Fleetwood Mac's "Chain", and The Beatles "Hey Jude".
