Following the earth-shattering performances of openers Court Order, Ringworm and After the Burial, the crowd ever so patiently awaited the arrival of Killswitch Engage. Cheers of excitement escaped from them as the crew pulled the black covers off the two banners, revealing the band’s insignia. The lights dimmed, the crowd’s deafening roar of cheers bounced off the venue’s walls as Killswitch Engage’s intro music, Kool & The Gang’s “Celebration,” played in the overhead speakers and colorful lights displayed on the banners.
One by one, each band member emerged from the shadows and not a moment was wasted as they began their set with “Fixation on the Darkness.” Front man, Jesse Leach, stepped off the stage and began to crowd surf briefly before finishing the song and continuing the set with “Rosa of Sharyn,” and “Life to Lifeless.” Before carrying on, Jesse made a brief announcement that guitarist, Joel Stroetzel, had stepped away from the tour while the very comical guitarist, Adam Dutkiewicz, chugged a beer in his honor, making his very random yet entertaining comments, adding to the energy as the crowd cheered and chuckled.
Killswitch Engage continued their set with “In Due Time,” “Take This Oath,” “No End in Sight,” and “Breathe Life.” As Jesse’s killer screams resonated throughout the venue, the energy from the large circle pit in the middle of the venue floor intensified every second that Killswitch Engage was on the stage. Next to be played was “The New Awakening,” “Vida Infra,” “Temple from Within,” and their latest heart-breaking single, “Always.” The crowd mouthed the words and sang along whole-heartedly and the sea of head banging and horn-waving grew larger as the band continued with “My Last Serenade,” “A Bid Farewell,” “Numbered Days,” ending the set with “My Curse and “The End of Heartache.”
To say that Killswitch Engage’s performance was epic is a huge understatement; they stole the show! The crowd was blown away with the band’s show and their incredible energy. Be sure to catch Killswitch Engage while they are on the road, this is a show you will not want to miss!
