New Orleans metal outfit Cane Hill are currently making serious waves in the rock/metal world. After releasing their debut self-titled EP via Rise Records this year. They're currently on the Greater Than tour supporting Volumes and Northlane. We spoke with vocalist Elijah Witt via email.
Cane Hill plays Brighton Music Hall with Northlane and Volumes on December 1st. Tickets are available via TicketMaster
How would you describe your band’s sound if you were talking to somebody who’d never heard you before?
Fast, violent, aggressive, and honest metal.
Tell me about the writing process for you EP.
We spent around two years writing songs and trashing them until we finally got to a point where we had music we could stand behind. It was basically five dudes sitting in a room sweating out the best shit we could over and over again until it worked.
What is the meaning behind the name Cane Hill?
It was a burnt down asylum in the UK that until a year or so ago was abandoned and haunted. It fit the music we were writing with its undertones of violence, abandonment, and loss.
Have you began writing for your full length?
What are three things you need to have with you on tour at all times?
Underwear, pot, and a good crew are the essentials.
What was the first album you bought?
Probably some shit like Nickelback when I was in elementary school. It wasn't long after that that I started buying the albums that mattered like Korn, Slipknot, Pantera, etc.
What was the first concert you attended?
Funny thing is I'm not really a concert goer. I can tell you Devins was Van Halen and that's a hell of a fucking concert to be your first time.
What’s your favorite album of 2015 so far?
I haven't listened to any albums from this year honestly. I can't remember a day we haven't blasted Pantera and Metallica. When current music goes to shit, it's time to revert and revise.
What can we expect from Cane Hill in 2016?
We've got more going on in 2016 than we've ever had. Keep your eyes peeled, because we're about to shed some blood.
Thanks a lot guys! Hope to catch up with you soon!
