This past Wednesday G-Eazy brought his Endless Summer Tour to Xfinity Center in Mansfield, MA. The 27 year old rapper from Oakland has been on a meteoric rise playing sold out show after sold out show. I’ve been fortunate enough to follow his career from the start when he would come to Boston and play the small stages around the city. Even back then when he was still on the rise you could tell there was something special about him. Some acts get lucky and hit the jackpot with a catchy tune that gets non-stop air play but then fade out. With G the hits were there. Accompanied by a dedication to the grind and a non stop tour schedule he didn’t allow himself to fade out.
The night got started with a solid set out of Logic. He is arguably one of of the best lyricists in the game right now. Those skills were on full display spitting bar after bar and taking control of stage. His connection with his fans is admirable, it’s something that is often missed by artists. However, Logic opens himself up on stage. That vulnerability is what allows the audience to connect on a deeper level.
Next up was G-Eazy. The countdown was on, literally. On both sides of the stage a monitor was counting down to the rappers emergence on stage. When that clock hit zero the crowd went absolutely crazy. Standing at the back of the stage amidst a cloud of smoke he slowly moved forward. From the minute G-Eazy took center stage, he had the crowd in the palm of his hands. Starting off with one of my personal favorites “Random” and transitioning fast into hit after hit like “Tumblr Girls” and “Lets Get Lost” he had the bras flying. Seriously though, I think he caught six. What would a hip hop superstar and heartthrob be without them. As I mentioned earlier I’ve been following G-Eazy from the beginning, and this was one of the best shows yet. Closing the night out with his biggest hit to date and current radio smash “Me, Myself and I”was a perfect way to end the show.
The time is now for you to get on the G Eazy train but one thing is for certain, it shows no sign of stopping so just sit back and enjoy the ride.
