The Nocturnal Underground Tour made its way to Charlotte, NC last Wednesday night, October 5th, featuring Korn, Breaking Benjamin, Motionless in White, and Silver Snakes. This show was the PNC Music Pavilion’s last show of the year as they gear up for cooler weather.
The show started nice and early to make time for all four bands, with Silver Snakes kicking off the evening. Motionless in White took the stage shortly after and played a short and concise setlist consisting of songs including “A-M-E-R-I-C-A”, “Contemptress”, and “Reincarnate”. Throughout their set their energy was contagious as they constantly ran around and interacted with the audience.
After a quick set change, Breaking Benjamin took the stage. At this point the seats and lawn were filled with fans as they cheered and returned rock horns to drummer Shaun Foist as he took his seat behind his set. The rest of the band made their way onto the stage and opened with their well-known single, “So Cold.” Vocal duties were shared between frontman Ben Burnley and guitarist Keith Wallen and bassist Aaron Bruch, which has been a common occurrence in their shows, adding a unique quality to their show. Their setlist included songs from all of their discography, such as “Polyamourous”, “Sooner or Later”, “Believe”, “Breath”, “Until the End”, “I Will Not Bow”, “Ashes of Eden”, “Failure”, and many others. They also took a moment to do a medley of songs that included “The Imperial March” from Star Wars, “Schism” by Tool, “Smells Like Teen Spirit” by Nirvana, and “Walk” by Pantera. The audience singing along was deafening throughout the band’s entire time on stage. Breaking Benjamin finished their 15 song setlist with “Diary of Jane” and made sure to get the crowed hyped up and ready for Korn.
Finally, Korn took the stage and started to kick off the set with “Right Now” as they got everything ready behind the stage curtain. As the song kicked in, the curtain fell and the audience could see each of the band members rocking out. The lights were bright and the energy was palpable. Frontman Jonathan Davis showed his enthusiasm as he announced that the band has just finished recording a new album (set to be released October 21st) and introduced the band’s most recent single “Rotting in Vain”. By this point, the PNC was completely packed and the band played songs including “Coming Undone”, “Insane”, “Here to Stay”, “Make Me Bad”, “Blind”, “Shoots and Ladders”, and more to an audience that was rocking out like their lives depended on it. Before anyone knew it, it was time for the encore, where Korn performed “Falling Away From Me” and “Freak on a Leash”.
Slowly but surely, the crowd made their way out of the PNC Music Pavilion on a chilly night, but it was obvious that everyone had a great time. If this tour is making its way close to you, be sure to take a night off and check it out!
