Horror metal band Motionless in White brought their unique brand of theatrics and sound to Boston on Tuesday night. The band is currently on the road as part of “The End is Here Tour” while drumming up interest for their forthcoming album, “Graveyard Shift” due out this May.
Taking to a stage adorned with fake candles, pumpkins, and a stunning light show, the group drew the loudest cheers of the night. Opening with a track from the upcoming album “570” Motionless in White set the tone showing that as they advance and mature, their material is becoming even heavier than in the past. Second on the setlist was the Marilyn Manson-esque song “A-M-E-R-I-C-A” which as all the hallmarks of being written by a group of kids who grew up on shock rock.
Later in their set, Motionless busted out a cover of System of a Down’s “Chop Suey” another ode to their inspiring artists. The band would squeeze another new song in after that, playing the recently released single “Eternally Yours” which just hit the airwaves this month. “Eternally Yours” is a hard-hitting metalcore track, which like the aforementioned “570” has a heavy edge to it, indicating the direction of Motionless’ new album. Their set was capped off with a pair of fan favorites “Dead as Fuck” and “Reincarnate.”
A major part of what keeps Motionless in White going is their loyally devoted fan base. A quick glance around the room on Tuesday revealed dozens of fans dressed in similar attire to the costumes and makeup the band wear on stage. Fans turn out in droves and know every word to every song Motionless performs. Another dimension Motionless seems to be expanding upon on this tour is in their live performance, bringing out characters dressed in costume including dancers, and their pumpkin character that comes out during shows in true shock rock fashion.
Now preparing to release their fourth full length studio album, Motionless in White are coming into their own, representing a new generation of the 'shock rock' genre. A genre that began with artists such as Alice Cooper and The Misfits eventually evolved with the times to new guardians like Marilyn Manson, Rob Zombie and Slipknot. But now the charge is being lead by Motionless in White and In This Moment as the genre enters it's next era. On this tour, Motionless is displaying the all encompassing stage show that will one day lead them to the arenas and amphitheaters now dominated by those before them.
Opening the show were dark rock artists Dead Girls Academy, synth rap rockers Dangerkids, and nu metalcore outfit Issues.
