MAE - before you ask the question - stands for Multisensory Aesthetic Experience. They’re a band from Norfolk, VA that started in 2001. After relentless touring in smaller clubs they were briefly signed with a major label and went on a tour with alternative rock outfit Ok, Go that played amphitheaters. After leaving the major label they self released some of their finest work over three EPs titled (M)orning (A)fternoon and (E)vening that had special editions with scratch and sniff discs.
After their self released EPs, the band decided to take a break, front man Dave Elkins started his own studio called Schematic in Nashville, TN. Occasionally playing MAE stuff for fans via live stream. Overall MAE only stayed completely inactive for 3 years, for the past 5 years they’ve been preparing for new material. They recently released a new EP called 3.0 and are back with their original record label Tooth & Nail.
Saturday night at the Middle East Club in Central Square Cambridge, Elkins along with core members Zach Gehring on guitar and Jacob Marshall on drums, MAE return to Boston after an 8 year break. SC indie rock outfit SondorBlue are set to open the show.
