If you’re a regular attendee at any of the several "Emo Night" events that have gained popularity in the last year, you’ll want to pay attention to this one, John Nolan of Taking Back Sunday and Straylight Run fame is celebrating his birthday with a short run of east coast live dates. John & His Band will embark on The Birthday Tour: a nine-date birthday celebration featuring songs off his two solo albums and the full Straylight Run discography.
“A few months ago, I had the idea to do a solo tour around the week of my birthday. Then I thought, since I’m touring around my birthday why not make every show like a birthday party,” explains Nolan. “So, every night the stage will be decorated with streamers and balloons, everyone will get little party favors and I’ll play songs from my solo albums and Straylight Run’s albums and we’ll all sing and celebrate together!”
For those unfamiliar, Straylight Run was an emo band formed by Nolan and his Taking Back Sunday bandmate, Shaun Cooper in 2003. Nolan and Cooper formed the band as an outlet for songs that they wrote, but felt wouldn't fit with Taking Back Sunday's material, eventually Nolan and Cooper left Taking Back Sunday to purse Straylight Run full time. The group released two full length albums and officially went on indefinite hiatus in 2010 when Nolan and Cooper rejoined Taking Back Sunday.
Former Straylight Run member Michelle DaRosa will be joining Nolan on the tour, as well as the band Mercy Union, fronted by The Scandals' Jared Heart.
