Editor's note: Last night, Brighton Music Hall played host to a sold out punk rock show celebrating the 40th anniversary of west coast punk royalty known simply as X. Tabbed to tour with X for this anniversary tour are Skating Polly, one of the finest of punk rock's youth movement. Skating Polly are a three piece punk rock band from Oklahoma City who play a modernized brand of punk known as "Riot Grrrl" - a feminist punk movement launched in the 1990's lead by bands like Bikini Kill and The Breeders. Skating Polly is lead by step-sisters Kelli Mayo and Peyton Bighorse, Mayo's brother Kurt is the band's drummer. Earlier this year Skating Polly released an EP with members of riot grrrl originals Veruca Salt. After Skating Polly's set was X's career-spanning set, once regarded as one of the best American punk rock bands, X's legacy and influence on punk rock, as well as other genres is sill felt to this day. Punk rock bands are often thought to be less than skilled musicians just going out and making noise, but that's the furthest thing from what X is as the band's 4 original members are multi-talented musicians.
